Final draft

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The two ancillary tasks act as complementing devices which give audience knowledge of the film, ideas about the film and also promotes your film also. As this is the first of the three products it is essential that it is of a high level and can draw in as many people as possible, it must give some brief information but not give away the story at the same time, it musty be very imaginative and must make the viewer want to see the film.

Our film poster shows the audience that it is about a boy who has some sort of confrontation, we can realise this from the title firstly ‘Rodney and the Vampire’ in one of our posters we have a fighting stance by Rodney who is standing in the foreground with Mr vamping watching over him in the background with all the other boys, we can get a representation of Rodney standing out/up for the group in a battle, by Rodney being in the foreground we also know he is the main character, with Mr. Vamping being the next main image it is able to verify Mr.

Vamping as the protagonists foe or problem in the film In another poster we have Mr. Vamping in the background with Rodney in the foreground and Mr vamping reaching out for Rodney, we can see that Mr. Vamping wants Rodney for some reason, this instils suspense and a thought of wanting to know what happens or what is going on between the pair. The colours orange, black, red and purple suggest mystery, secrecy, blood, Halloween and horror.

Our posters try to keep a 50/50 aura where there is evil and good to represent the battle; one of our posters has Rodney with a glow around him which kind of portrays him as angel like with Mr. Vamping looking sinister with his dark surrounding. The film tries to show a battle but obviously Rodney is never really going to be man enough to take in Mr. Vamping although he does stand up to a certain extent.

With our film posters whenever we go for one representation we try to implement the reverse of it to show how the film has to sides to it. Where we might have orange for a kind of childish Halloween we will have a purple for mysterious Halloween.

I feel our film poster composition does a great job in portraying our film, in our posters we either have Rodney making funny faces which show the foolish, childish side of him, him making a smug look or him trying to be brave, all three are different aspects of his character but still give you the same representation of the film as a whole with Mr. Vamping looking sinister and very mysterious or him reaching after Rodney, as Rodney shows three different aspects Mr. Vamping uses the same aspect but portrays them in different ways.

The costumes used in the poster will attract school kids as they will feel they can relate in some ways as they are in school to, teacher-student confrontation etc. vampires adds to this audience and also branches out to a more mature audience also.

As the film review comes after the production it is good as it allows you to criticise your film and look for things which were good about your film and for things which were bad about your film. In some ways it also shows how much you know about your film. The film review is provides our audiences with various opinions and information on what are film is about and if our film is at a level that is acceptable for viewing. Our film review adds to our advertisement of our film (like the poster).

Now stating the obvious it allows our production to be more professional and to allow us to be taken seriously, all films have a poster to advertise and a film review after which offers opinions and other things. It would be very unprofessional to have a film without any form of advertisement. If none of the two were done who would your audience be? Who would you have advertised your film to? If theirs no audience then in most cases it is pointless to make a film.

The two ancillary tasks allow us to get a deeper understanding of our films and learn more about the production process. It is a very effective combination that draws in audience and gives out information.
