Final Draft

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Receiving audience feedback is one of the most important factors in all 3 parts of production. As we know when making something sometimes you can get carried away and need outer feedback to allow you to know what is good about what your doing and what is bad about what you’re doing, we must remember that we are making films for an audience and we ourselves are not the target audience.

Throughout our pitches, treatments and first ideas of our film we was constantly getting new feedback which allowed us to go back and change certain things. One thing was the sandpit, we planned for Rodney to be thrown in the sandpit instead of a bush but we was advised not to, we decided to still go ahead with it, we was then told by Mr Edwards that it goes against health and safety as there is a fox hole there and a lot of animal waste in the sandpit.

We were told that Rodney comes across as a loveable character in our pitch and that our simple story can be very effective. One feedback we got was that everything links together; we didn’t really get major feedback which made us change anything major but little things that could make our film better. A good piece of feedback was if Rodney is always screaming like a girl how does he gain confidence to become a saviour – this was a good question to be asked because it affects logical causality because he couldn’t just change character – due to this we added parts which made Rodney stand out more for himself.

At our first presentation our film ideas had no major sense of Logical causality, thematic unity, plot twists, motivation for characters and any real development. 1 major thing we was told was that we should stop out f the box the gain ideas that were not common and find ideas from various sources for example looking at simple stories which can be expanded, newspapers, websites which have short story ideas which can be modernised in some cases or altered to produce a good production.

We was told that our film had a good idea and that we only needed to change a few things and delve deeper into the development of certain characters, that’s what made us make very in-depth character profiles adding things which we may have not put if we had not received feedback (things like religion, lifetime background, information about parents etc) we went to another level with our profiles to make the characters as real as possible. This was a very important part of feedback as by doing very detailed character profiles we know our characters better and have more information to give to our cast so that they can feel more like the character there playing.

At first we had loads of dialogue and we were told to let the actions do more talking and only use dialogue when necessary. We then cut down a large amount of dialogue and tried to enforce actions instead of dialogue. This allows us to tell the story through Mis en scene and composition. Too much dialogue can ruin a film and usually most dialogue used can be taken out and explained by action gesture etc.

I think the most important feedback we received was concerning our storyboards, we submitted our storyboards in and most of our scenes did not have cutaway shots, this didn’t allow our scenes to flow properly, we then added cutaways as it proves to be very significant in film making. They were important as they showed what was going on in places we were going to show fully next of if two things are going on simultaneously. This made our production a whole lot better. When making a film without the use of cutaway shots it can only aspire to a certain level, cutaway shots make the film better. After receiving the feedback about cutaways I believe our film became much better as it flowed through better and seemed to make more sense, if we did not receive this information our film would not have been that good.

We received feedback for our editing many times we was told that our film was too prolonged so we went back and changed it (making it shorter). We were told to add a few more cutaways so we did this, slow down some shots, cut down on some effects.

The first music we used in our film was said to be to spooky and serious as we were trying to go for a specific sound, we then looked for more music and the final music we used was liked by our audience and was said to complement the film very well. The sound effects used were good like the school bell was put in nicely with the fade to show time has passed.

We received feedback for our film review at first we went for the single review with no other reviews on the page, after showing the group we then made two different film reviews which both had various different films being reviewed with our film the main film on both reviews, this helped us as the level from the 1st draft to the final is very good, the colours, layout, typography all make it a better production.

We initially started with only having 1 film poster then we decided to make a poster campaign (3 film posters) that all tell the same story in its own way, this made our film posters better and allowed us to have more than one film poster.

When our film was finished we received feedback for that. Are titles were said to be good we was told that we could have had a better actor, our film is good and portrayed comedy, we was told that our film could have finished in a better way and that we had some continuity problems all the feedback given could be seen as pointless as the film is done however it is still useful as if we were to make another film we would have more knowledge and would be able to cut out some mistakes which we made this time.
