Evaluation 4

Final Draft

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

This year we have used the methods of blogs to present our works, we have not used blogs before to present work to the examiners so blogs in itself is a media technology, the blog we used was https://www.blogger.com/start, all the work we have done was posted on our blogs, for PowerPoint presentations I used http://www.slideshare.net/ to upload my presentations and then transfer the embedded code into my blog . This was not easier but allowed the work to be presented in a better way. Using blogs allows us to add pictures of our film or change the background so that your blog can look like a blog for your film.

You tube was important for us as we watched several clips about various different points of production, we watched clips on cinematography which allowed us to get a wider understanding of cinematography it also showed us the significance of cinematography in filming, we also watched clips on lighting, good editing and other clips also we watched clips of people like John Loach, Kieslowski, Chris Doyle and many others.

This year we used a different editing software which was called Premier (last year we used avid), there were a lot of differences between the two like the amount of things you could do in the programme, I feel premiere was a better software to use as you could do more with it. Looking back over the two programmes premier had a wide range of effects compared to few by avid, audio levels was very important in our film and with premier we could toggle the levels easier and in a better way, as we had various music over dialogue and music which is mixed in and other sound effects to input, premier allowed us to do this freely. We could also stretch out audio which played a big part in our film and we were able to so easily in premier.

The use of internet played a big part in our production in areas like music, we could go on various websites who all have copyright free music, it is very simple to do this also, any search engine could be used by just typing in copyright free music a load of websites would come up and you can freely choose from any of the websites.

As most of us use social networking sites and things like Photoshop it creates a sense of familiarity, we will become better with technology as we are around it more making us more creative as we use it more frequently. Although we used different editing software I still think it helped us this time round, the programmes were not to different, in some senses it would seem like an upgrade, all the same features with more things available.

The use of internet also allows loads of money to be saved, also as you can promote things freely now before you would have to pay for various advertising methods. With today’s technologies you can produce market and distribute your work for as good as nothing, you can reach millions of people with the click of a mouse. Linking with this accessibility is much better now, we could check the blog whenever we wanted and being in class was not an excuse to not do the work, we could check for any new work as most of the work was posted on the blog and it was our job to go and check. We could now post work anytime of the day making it easier for all of us.

My group had a few meetings on msn group chat when we couldn’t meet in person this was good for us as we didn’t always have to come and meet each other as we could sit down at a PC and share our ideas and decide on things we wanted and needed done.

More alternatives are now available also as we have more computers, cameras tapes etc. if one computer was not working we could easily move to another computer or use a different camera or tape, it makes it easier for us and saves us a lot of time. If a computer is broken we don’t have to wait until it’s fixed we can just use another one.

It was good for us as all things are digital now, as we have non-linear editing it make it much easier to edit film, digitising becomes easier and quicker to do, we can add certain effects to film which is good also.
